The movie industry has the Oscar, hockey has the Stanley Cup and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Capital Region Chapter has the Empire Awards!

Created in 2008, the Empire Awards celebrate and commemorate the triumphs of the programs, projects and people that strengthen, promote and sharpen the public relations profession in the Capital Region and beyond.

The Empire Awards celebration is a great opportunity for practitioners to learn what is going on throughout the communications community, to hear about best (and award-winning) practices and to celebrate the success of our colleagues and peers.

So how do YOU win an Empire Award?

First you have to enter!  Work (campaigns and/or tactics) that occurred from May 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011 is eligible.  Also, there are two special Empire Award honors – the Outstanding Practitioner Award, given to a Capital Region public relations professional, and the Outstanding Communicator Award, given to a professional/community leader/public figure who has demonstrated excellence in the field of communications.

We are currently considering entries in 10 categories: Public Relations Campaign – Profit,  Public Relations Campaign – Non-Profit, Public Affairs Campaign, Integrated Campaign, Media Relations – Profit (Regional), Media Relations – Non-Profit (Regional), Media Relations – (Statewide & Beyond), Online Media, Newsletters and Annual Reports.

What do you think — what are the critical tactics that are tried and true in your public relations tool kit? Should we add a new category or two? What about Magazines?  Or Collateral Material?  How about Videos? Or Events?

Keep an eye out for Save the Date details and the Call for Entries form.  If you have any questions, let us know at PRSA_Capital_Region@Hotmail.com

Trust me…that flaming torch trophy is pretty cool and a great way to impress your boss, your colleagues, your clients, your Mom, your bowling team, the FedEx guy, your kid’s soccer team, your fantasy baseball league, your knitting club….
